Meet the Team

Week by week, we have a team of fantastic volunteers who each play a part in empowering Young People with #SkillsForLife. We thought you’d like to get to know us a bit better and see that we all lead “normal” lives outside of Scouting. Check back regularly whilst we add everyone’s details to the page!

Bob Quance (Akela): Group Scout Leader and Cub Scout Leader

Bob has been involved with Scouting for 55 years, since his first Cub meeting! He is our Group Scout Leader- which means he’s in charge of all the volunteers in the group. Bob is also Cub Scout Leader with Blackroot Pack.

Fun Fact: Bob loves walking and has completed the Yorkshire Felsman Hike of 65 miles in 24 hours none stop!

Beavers

Claire has been part of Scouting since volunteering for her DofE award 16 years ago and has been a leader for 5 years. She works as a Maths Teacher and currently looks after both our Beaver Colonies. She also has two family members in the group, Beverly and Celia! Claire is often behind the Tweets from our Twitter account.

Fun Fact: Claire has a slightly out of control obsession with cows, especially Highland Cows!

Celia Lewis (Bumblebee): Assistant Beaver Scout Leader

Celia has been involved with Scouting for 12 years, beginning as a Parent Helper, and she loved it so much she decided to become a Leader 5 years ago! She works as a Switchboard Operator and is known for being a fantastic tea maker!

Fun Fact: Celia is looking into buying a goat!

Fun Fact: Chomper and his friend Tom like to make sure new Beavers don’t get scared in their first few weeks!

Tom: Beaver Mascot

Tom is a full-time Beaver, and has been with us for 5 years. He loves eating Cheerios and Coco Pops! Tom and his friend Chomper help make sure new Beavers don’t get scared in their first few weeks!

Fun Fact: Each week Tom stays at a Beaver’s house and joins in with all the fun they have, and makes sure he eats all his vegetables whilst there!

Other Volunteers!

Carol Fryer: Website Editor

Carol joined the team in 2019, volunteering to help us keep our group website up to date! She has never been in Scouting before that, but her eldest child has started Cubs. Carol works as a Communications Manager and in her spare time, she likes being outdoors, gardening, walking, riding her bike and exploring new places.

Fun Fact: Carol can drive a tractor and once organised an event for the Queen and Prince Philip!

We also have a fantastic team of Young Leaders (aged 14-18). For data protection and safeguarding reasons we haven’t listed them here, but they play a vital role in meetings, camps, events and more!

Out amazing Executive Committee work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure we’re still able to offer a great Scouting experience.

Do you think you could help us? We need more volunteers for weekly meetings, camps, admin tasks and more- you don’t have to be Bear Grylls to volunteer! Get in touch today, and feel free to ask us any questions you have! There’s also more information here: https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteer.
